Outside space/playground/structures for Middle schoolers is important for mental and physical health

by Morag,

As many students return to schools from a learning from home environment I am concerned about their mental well being. I think part of mental well being is having a healthy body. I think it is very important for Middle Schools to have appropriate outside space and activities for students overall health. My son is returning to SHMS after a year of BU. SHMS does not have any kind of play structure or natural play area for recess. I think it's important for BVSD to consider putting an age appropriate play structure in the grounds of the school (out front?) that the students can use during lunch/recess/PE. Outside time is going to be very important for these students who have been affected by covid stay-at-home learning, coupled with the emotions of a mass shooting in their neighborhood. I am thinking that other BVSD middle schools would also benefit from outside adventure/play space also, but due to the mass shooting on-top of the Covid that SHMS is particularly in need of a safe space for students to be outside to move around and get the energy out of their bodies.

Please seriously consider this request.

Kind regards,

Morag Greenberg
